What are the symptoms of Down Syndrome?
There are many symptoms associated with Down syndrome, however not all are found in everyone affected, and some are rare. Known symptoms of Down syndrome include:
· Decreased muscle tone · A shorter neck, also with a large amount of skin at the rear of the neck · Flattened facial features · Small head, ears, and sometimes mouth · Upward slanting eyes · Brushfield spots ( white spots on the eye) · Short and wide hands with fat fingers · Separation of the big toe and other toes. Apart from those features, over 99% of people with Down syndrome suffer from some form of mental and developmental impairment. This includes: · lower iq average · speech impairment · slow learning · short attention span · impulsive behaviour People with Down syndrome are also more susceptible to many health problems, including heart problems, gastro-intestinal problems, joint problems, and also common colds and infections. However, all of these susceptibilities should not cause any trouble if properly treated. |
